New! Adopter Training Program

Dog obedience training is a vital aspect of responsible pet ownership and can provide many benefits for both dogs and their owners. The Lewis Clark Animal Shelter is pleased to offer several resources for dog owners using positive reinforcement and proactive training methods proven to produce happy resources and long-lasting results.

"PAWSITIVE START" is a 4 week - $100 course that seeks to help new dog adopters. Whether it's your first dig or your tenth, we encourage everyone with a new best friend to sign-up.

The class will cover:

  • Sit, Down
  • Loose Leash Walking
  • Door Manners
  • Leave It
  • Place
  • Introduction to Cooperative Care

The class will include:

  • What all dogs need
  • The "333" rule of new dogs
  • Weekly training handouts
  • Class sizes will be 8 dogs max with their owners
  • Class discussions

Also offering private lessons for $40 for one session. These private lessons will feature one-on-one instruction with our CPDT - certified dog trainer. You'll be able to cover any training goal or behavior issue during a one hour session. Private lessons are flexible and based on your availability.
